Nunawading Basketball
From static signage to a fun and exciting game day that brings a community together.
How LED Media helped a busy Melbourne basketball venue trade slow, static sponsor boards for a screen that updates in minutes and brings real energy to every game.
Key wins
- 18,000 people pass through Nunawading Basketball every week, now met with a game day experience built around genuine community energy, not just the game itself
- Sponsor and program offerings updated in minutes, replacing static signage that once required careful upfront planning with no flexibility to change
- Genuine visibility for sponsors, with rotating courtside signage and scannable, interactive content giving every partner real, dynamic exposure
The challenge
Before working with LED Media, sponsorship branding at Nunawading Basketball was static by necessity. Every placement required significant thought and planning upfront, once a sponsor’s signage went up, there was no real versatility to adjust or swap the offering without a costly, time-consuming process of reprinting and remounting.
That inflexibility was a real limitation for a venue with the reach Nunawading Basketball has. The club needed a way to make every sponsor placement work harder, and to be able to change and refresh that content without the same cost and lead time static signage demanded.
For Paul Flynn, GM of Brand & Commercial, game day was always meant to be more than just the basketball, an event the community should be excited to be part of, and the venue needed the flexibility to bring that same energy to everything happening around the game.
What we delivered
LED Media worked with Paul and the team at Nunawading Basketball to move sponsorship and event content from static to fully dynamic. Courtside signage now rotates through sponsor content throughout every match, giving each partner genuine, ongoing visibility rather than a single fixed placement. The venue’s big screen runs a live scoreboard, game day promos, and scannable content, including QR codes that let sponsors engage fans directly, rather than sitting passively on a wall.
Our approach
Our focus was on giving Nunawading Basketball a screen that could do more than display, one that could actively shape the atmosphere of the venue. That meant building a system flexible enough to update sponsor and program content in minutes, rather than requiring the careful upfront planning and physical reprint that static signage once demanded.
The result is a setup the club can manage with real agility, updating what’s on screen to match whatever’s happening that day, whether that’s a new sponsor campaign, a program promotion, or content built specifically for a milestone game.
The result
Game day at Nunawading Basketball is now shaped by more than the basketball itself. As Paul puts it, “the basketball game remains the main thing, what we put in the peripheral is really important to us, the colour, the movement, the energy you can create digitally these days, it brings another level of excitement for our members, and it’s just added a whole new element to game day.”
Sponsors now get real, rotating visibility instead of static placement that once took careful planning just to get right, let alone change. Fans get an atmosphere that keeps them engaged well beyond the final score, and the club has the flexibility to update its offering in minutes rather than days. It’s exactly the kind of digital transformation Paul envisioned when game day needed to become more than just the game, it needed to become an event the whole community wants to be part of.
"Game day for us is an event. It's something we want our community to be actively engaged in. The basketball game remains the main thing, what we put in the peripheral is really important to us, the colour, the movement, the energy you can create digitally these days, it brings another level of excitement for our members, and it's just added a whole new element to game day."
