The challenge

Before its redevelopment, State Basketball Centre operated with LED signage that was minimal in both scale and quality. As the venue planned its redevelopment, leadership identified a clear priority from the outset: a genuine digital presence wasn’t optional, it was central to the vision for what the venue needed to become.

Without strong visual infrastructure, the venue had limited ability to offer sponsors real, engaging visibility, and no consistent way to bring fans into the experience beyond what was happening on the court itself.

What we delivered

LED Media installed large-format LED screens across two key spaces at State Basketball Centre, the show court and Court 17, along with courtside LED signage and a Superscreen display, giving the venue the ability to run live scoring, graphics, sponsor content, and event promotion across every major event it hosts. The partnership began after a conversation at an NBL1 forum and has continued for four to five years since.

Our approach

From the very first conversation, our focus was understanding State Basketball Centre’s broader vision for the redevelopment, not just supplying a screen, but helping deliver on a genuine digital transformation for the venue. Installation was fast and well-managed, and the support didn’t stop once the screens were up. According to the venue, the response from our team has been immediate, whether that’s addressing a request from the venue itself, the state sports trust, or the NBL.

That responsiveness has made a measurable difference. The quality of graphics, live game feeds, and scoreboard displays are all now run directly through the screens, giving the venue a level of production value that matches the calibre of competition and events held there.

The result

State Basketball Centre now runs one of the strongest digital sponsorship offerings among local associations, with sponsorship revenue growing by at least 50% since the screens went in, and new sponsors signing on almost immediately after seeing the technology firsthand. The venue hosts NBL and WBL games, cheerleading competitions, boxing, karate, and community festivals, all supported by screens that keep fans genuinely engaged, not just watching, but interacting.

That impact reached its peak during the NBL Legends of Basketball for Bowel Cancer, where the venue used the screen’s QR code functionality to drive real-time donations, turning the screen into a direct fundraising tool for a cause the community cared about, raising significant funds for the second leading cause of cancer death in Australia.

As the venue puts it, moving to LED digital was a genuine game changer, hard signage simply can’t deliver the same impact. It’s a partnership State Basketball Centre recommends without hesitation to other associations, clubs, and venue managers considering the same move.

"Increasing sponsorship has been a key component of having the LED screens in the venue. It's grown at least 50% in terms of revenue and also numbers. We signed a new sponsor the other week, and as soon as soon as they saw the LED screens, they just jumped on it straight away. It's a game changer moving to LED digital. Hard signage is great, but you don't get that same impact."
